I got out for a short hunt a Union cav site. I got two button backs. One looks like a cuff and the other has a backmark of scovill Waterbery. I also found some type of rivet and some type of bullet. It may be a "colt revolving rifle" but I am not sure. Does anyone have any ideas on the actual type of bullet or what the rivet was used for? Thanks.

Common leather rivet used mostly on horse related pieces. As previously stated this type changed very little over many years. I find 1 or 2 a trip & no CW over here apart from 1640s.

Still must be a few nicer items out there somewhere!

Nice finds. Happy hunting in the future!

Looks like a CW era pistol bullet to me and those button backs are the right period. I think I would knuckle down on that site and see if theres more left there. Those rivets were usually used on harnesses and such

Agree with the .44 pistol bullet evaluation, and the rivets that size were frequently used on knapsacks, and sword belts as well.

agree,it looks to be M&M 490 colt dragoon (it looks like there are some slash marks on the side at the
bottom of the bullet,if not it would be M&M 489 colt dragoon.
