I found this token last year at a site where I dug many CW era buttons and coins. I have had suggestions that it is a communion token but I doubt it since there is no religious symbol. Anyone???

It looks like a coal chit to me, Neil. I'm in the heart of coal country and dig quite a few of them. Coal companies would pay their employees with tokens good at the company store. They were also used to identify which miner loaded a car, as miners were payed by tonnage.

Additionally, there is an "EP Bender" Coal comppany in PA, though I don't know how long they have been in business.

Nice ID Kevo! There are lots of Coal Mine Scrips Tokens listed on Ebay & Google. Here's a website with the same information that Kevo provided. (It's the 9th pic down the page.)
