My son and I decided to try a new spot yesterday that was just spitting distance across a creek from a known large Union Campsite. After 3 hours of hunting neither of found a thing. We've not given up on the site just yet, but my son's hunting time was limited so I suggested we go back to the Confederate camp were I found the C.S.A. buckle last year. With only about an hour to spare, we got to hunting. Suprisingly, the site is still giving up relics. Together we found four buttons, an Eagle button, a plaid patterned button, and two flat buttons. The larger of the two flat buttons has a spread eagle with ten stars and the word 'BEST' on its reverse. I also found one 'puppy paw' from the back of a U.S. oval buckle. Last year we joked about the rest of the buckle being there because my son had found the hook. Now, we're thinking there might be a chance that it actually is! Not sure what the piece of lead is pictured, maybe a lead seal? Most of the lead we have found there has been melted campsite lead. We'll keep you posted, as we plan to return before the grass gets too high. Thanks for looking!
