I found my first silver coin today and I have been detecting for about 7 years. I guess some of those remote places in the mountains don't hold much silver. I'd rather find CW stuff anyway. The one bullet I found is a two ring 69 caliber. The other is tore up so much I can't tell what it is. The other is a 69 caliber bullet, but I can't find nothing like it in my two bullet books. I also found a small piece of period lead, and a green mason jar with lid that I did not put in the pictures. I have found a bunch of Wheaties, but my oldest coin is an 1802 or 1822 half cent. This was the first time being at this site. It was a small battle here in WV. It wasn't a very promising day, but I'll hit it again another day and see what happens. It's 97 acres and I was just scanning looking for a hot spot, and as of now I haven't found it.

I see a shotgun slug cant make out some of the other. At least you are out there finding stuff.Good job on your fiinds.

Congrats on the silver!

Not the day I was looking for, but I'll be back at it another day. I'm addicted to this Hobby and Civil War History. I just wish I didn't have to drive so far all the time. Thanks for the comments.

Nice silver. That slug and smashed one with base showing look old but post war

civil war 22 I disagree on the smashed one. There were two battles fought within a mile of where I found this one. I've done my research and would have to say your wrong on the smashed on. 2 ring 69 caliber. It was found within the one battle and within a mile of the other..

Markp I'm not discrediting you I can't see rings on the smashed one that are on a .69 minie. I did notice right off the rifling on the slug.

Markp I'm not discrediting you on your finds I just am saying that based on what I see on the tiny screen of a iPhone the smashed bullet has a more of a rounded inner flat base and most .69 have more of a conical base. The smashed one also is fairly the same size as far as the base is concerned as the slug is. If it does have rings on it then it all depends on how many. The other slug clearly has rifling marks or striations along the side. All in all they are still very nice finds. You may never know the id of the smashed one even if you weighed it and tried using a micrometer on the base. It's a guessing game with smashed ones in that shape

Congrats on your first silver coin Mark. :occasion14: I'd rather dig CW relics too.
