CW Bullet reference guide

The six best books for relic-diggers and collectors on civil war bullets are:
"Civil War Projectiles II: Small Arms & Field Artillery, With Supplement" by W. Reid McKee and M.E. Mason Jr. It's the best-known of all the civil war bullets books... but it was originally published in 1968 and although it has been reprinted many times, it contains numerous and major ID-errors ...which have never been corrected with updated information. Available for $35.

The following five books are much more recent, and contain lots of newly-discovered Historical information which corrects the many errors in the McKee-&-Mason book.

"A Handbook Of Civil War Bullets & Cartridges" by James E. Thomas and Dean S. Thomas. Includes a cross-reference with McKee-&-Mason bullet-numbers. Originally published in 1996, revised in 2007. 88 pages. Price $9.
"Round Ball To Rimfire: A History Of Civil War Small Arms Ammununition" by Dean S. Thomas. Actually a 4-book series (published between 2003 and 2010), beginning with roundballs in Part One, yankee bullets in Part 2 and 3, and Confederate bullets in Part 4. Each "Part" is a separate book, and each book in the series is $60.

Due to the high cost of the excellent Round Ball To Rimfire books, I've had to compromise by using the semi-obsolete M&M book along with the updated Handbook Of Civil War Bullets & Cartridges for yankee bullet ID, and Round Ball To Rimfire 4 for Confederate bullet ID (314 pages).
