Hi,
I got out on Sat to a new spot in the woods.
I dug this and wasn't really sure what it was until
I checked my finds at home. I'm really sure it is
a CW bullet. I really did not expect to find one of these
around here in RI. :dontknow: Any thoughts??

Thanks

Joe

I can't say for certain but it looks like a relatively modern, cast large-bore revolver bullet to me. Some dimensions or something beside it for a size comparison would help identify it more positively.

What is a Civil War bullet?

Thanks for the idea...I added another pic for size.

Modern or not, still pretty cool Joe, glad you got out there! Don't forget to wear your orange!

Google it!!

so......say I found a bullet in Oregon.........would it be a Civil War bullet?
What if I found a Bullet in Georgia that had nothing to do with the Civil War?
Is a Goose in California still a Canada Goose?
How a bout a Seagull in Utah....is it still a Sea Gull?

I think yours is 1900's
here is a CW era bullet found in RI

When I see "Civil War" I think Civil War era- dating it 1860's. I don't necessarily consider it to have been "in the war" like a battle. That's just me though.

....was there nothing else going on anywhere in the US during this time?...................Just saying.....people get so hung up on the Civil War!!Why?

Also for the record..................the bullet in question appears to be a 38 Cal pistol bullet......modern

I said mine was a CW era bullet - it is a Sharps ring tail and was found near a fort that was manned during the CW
just in case the south decided to send forces north
it was probably fired as target practice or at an animal
but it is still a CW era style bullet
found this year too - most of these are CW era too - most found near forts also manned in the north during the CW

and these musket balls were found near a Rev war fort - manned during the Revolution - War 1812 and the CW
will never know if any were fired during action(one of the forts did see minor action during RW and 1812) - but i still like finding them
DSC00014.JPG

but even ones found in farm fields down south near battlefields or old home sites where action took place during the CW
could have been fired at wildlife before the war or after the war by hunters or farmers - granted high percentage are from action
but with some it would be hard to tell - unless you can attribute to a certain gun and even then they could have still used that fiearm after the war to target shoot or shoot game in their fields

...........exactly my point Casper.....

Well put Bev!! Thank you. I guess I should have said Civil War 'Era'. My Bad. LOL
I was just looking for information without all the drama.

Thanks Casper. I should have said Civil War Era. I know this was not a bullet from the civil war,
but it does match the ones used during this era.
It helps when it is explained in a simple manner.

Well excuse the "Drama",this is a discussion board where people might, maybe discuss...pardon me while I go search for Martian rocks!!!
