I went back to the old high school to continue the grid and try and finish cleaning up before the tear down In the spring. I was swingin the CZ21 and digging all the high and mid tones. I found 21 coins with a face value of $0.66, Sesame Street fire truck from 1981, a cheapy ring that looked good coming out of the ground, a civil war bullet, a Chinese cash coin, 2 marking training rounds, tabs and junk. The training founds were the first I have ever seen. The one on the left is all dried up and the one on the right is missing the marking tip. Both still have the primer in tact so they haven’t been fired.

The civil war bullet is a .52 caliber Sharps with a punch base. It has been fired and is in bad shape but you can make out the 2 square grooves on one side that tell me it is a Sharps. The Chinese cash coin is a newer one made from 1875 to 1908.

I went back to the scout camp with the CZ21 and finished up the activity field on my first trip. I found 85 coins with a face value of $10.77, 15 camp tent pegs, a mag light, a neckerchief slide, a Swiss Army knife, 36 .22 slugs, 3 .45 cal. slugs, a pair of master lock keys found 6 feet apart, a curtain weigh style button, a plastic insert to hold an igniter in a model rocket engine (eyeball find-they launch rockets on this field for a merit badge class), 131 brass cartridges, some tabs and a little can slaw.

I found another French lebel 8mm and my first .22 casings on the field. It is strange, but I have found tons of larger caliber casings and only 2 of these, yet I have found a pile of .22 slugs. Weird!

I spent several more days swingin in campsites. Spending 6 hours swingin the CZ21 and digging the high and mid tones to lean up the sites. The next trip I found 122 coins with a face value of $11.03, 43 camp tent pegs, sinkers, a partial fishing lure, an Arrow of Light pin, a fleur de lis pin, a scout pin, 2 neckerchief slides, a Snow Peak titanium spork ($9.95 on line), a few tabs and a pile of melted aluminum from the campfires.

The Arrow of Light pin is one you don’t see very often. Normally the guys just have a patch. The fleur de lis pin is also an uncommon find.

One of the Roosevelt dimes spent some time in a very hot campfire. Clad coins that get too hot swell up like a balloon like this one.

The third trip to camp I found 114 coins with a face value of $10.33, 54 camp tent pegs, a stainless table knife, 3 fishing sinkers, 2 rope tensioners, a mushroomed copper clad bullet, a Boy Scout 3 year pin, a star scout pin, some tabs and as always melted aluminum from the campfires.

The last trip to camp I found 139 coins with a face value of $10.80, 57 camp tent pegs, a stainless table knife, a nice pile of sinkers, a Scout Oath and Law coin, a pistol blank, a R leather stamp, a wolf pin, a broken key, a rope tensioner, an older scout knife (regular steel blades instead of the stainless blades on the newer ones), a few tabs and melted aluminum from the campfires.

The blank has a 1981 headstamp, the leather stamp is something I have found a few times before in other sites and the wolf pin is not an official scout pin.

The scout coin has the Scout oath on one side and the Scout law on the other. I have found several similar coins in the past, but this is a new style for me.

I really enjoy finding civil war bullets and the variety of finds from the scout camp keep the hunts interesting. The gas money keeps piling up and it looks like I am on track to have my best clad year ever. More silver and gold would be nice, but you never know what the next hole will hold. Thanks for looking, stay safe and may your coil lead you to good things.

Oodles of Scout stuff and other goodies...
Nice! :occasion14:

very nice!I love old brass and cartridges.Must admit I,ve never seen any like those two with the plastic projectiles. The caliber appears to be .30 Carbine and 9mm but the bullets kind of throw me.I,ve not done any search, just going from memory.Jim.

They were a first for me too. I had to do some research to find them. They are called marking rounds and are designed to be used in training if the info I found was correct. Thanks for looking, stay safe and keep swingin.
