I found this in a backyard of a town that was occupied at one point during the war. Is this a CW button from Rhode Island? How can a person tell for sure? I am new on CW relics, so any information is appreciated. Does it have any value? I gave it to a friend of mine before realizing it might be CW.

Thanks guys. Alabear...I am a button rookie. What does RV1 mean? Is it Retail Value $1???? Just curious, as I gave it to a friend.

Re: CW Button??? Not sure

Any button is a good button to me. But it is Post Civil War.

Rhode Island State Seal button. Backmark 1880-1920.

RV stands for Relative Value. The higher the number the rarer. RV1 would mean it was very common.

An AK1 (Arkansas State Seal Button) has an RV100 with a "Hyde & Goodrich/NO" , the "Horstmann & Allien/NY" is an RV 85.
Both are very uncommon and command a large $$$.

The KY button in my Avatar is a KY1-D and is an RV 15. It's worth about $600-$800 retail.
