CW axe ? not really sure

I went back to the CW camps out here close by where i found a few buttons and relics before about a hour this morning the temps reached above 40* not much today but i did find a old rusted axe head about a good 8 inches down it weighs just over 9 pounds , the only reason i dug it a good solid signal on my DFX , iam not sure how old it is but i took a few pics HH Jim .

It's hard to say. Some were marked US but I doubt you would ever to be able to see any markings on it. If it was dug in an area that was strictly civil war you can just about figure it is civil war. If they are has been logged it will be hard to date. It was used a splitting maul though. That's way the end is smashed up. Lots of times those things broke when they were used as mauls and that why you find pieces of broken axes in the woods.
