Took the E-trac for a walk today at my favorite field. The E-trac came through again for me. Today I pulled this piece of Spanish silver outta the ground. At least I think it's spanish silver. I searched for the rest of it, but no luck. Not surprised though. Is there enough visible data on the 1/4 piece of silver to ID it? Anyone out there good with these types of coins? I've done a quick google search for spanish coins, but haven't found it yet. Your help is appreciated. Good luck to you all.

Happy Hunting!

That is an old one and I am on the job looking for ya. Congrats. Now find another whole one.

Chas III (Archduke of Austria), pretender to the throne, Barcelona, 1/4 cut of 2 reales. I think 1707 to 1714. I found one dated 1712 in southeast maryland. Somewhat scarcer than the cut cross style pistareens in the USA. The 1/4 cuts of the cross style coins are called "phips".

Wow!!! Thanks for such a quick ID on this! This piece of silver would have pre-dated the church that is next to the field I found it in by about 20-30 years. Pretty cool! Thanks again for your help! :)

I think the cut pieces have so much more character than the whole coins and they just gleam with history. awesome find!

I'd like to know where the rest of the coin is...think it'd be neat to know the story of where they ended up. Easily one of my favorite finds to date. :)
