Cut silver?

I found this today and I'm just not sure. It looks like it to be but wanting eyes can be deceiving. It's cut in half, has a hole and I think I can see the letters US. Any ideas?

I was thinking the US was from carolus as well but I've never found one so I wanted some input from experts. Especially with the wear this coin has. Thanks guys.
