Hello all hope your all out swinging
I went out in sat to a very old spot very few signals all deep
I dug this thinking it was trash I tossed it in my pouch
Yesterday I was emptying my junk and I said to myself hmm!
So I put it in the electrolisys tank
It was crusted. When I took it out this is what I found
I have no idea what it is but it is silver
Any guesses. Thanks hh gl

Not a colonial silver coin that I recognize, although very interesting ....

As I told you earlier, it looks like an 8R that was altered into a love token or jewelry piece.

Whatever it is, it looks cool and old!

Location found ? IE: Beach... woods ... field ?

Whatever it was had some size. That edge could help to identify. Congratulations on silver in any case.

With the back that mangled would be strange if it was a coin. How do you know for certain it is silver?

I am thinking it is a broken button, maybe tombac or pewter? The back of it looks like a design from a cast mold.

Not a coin, maybe a brooch piece.

Realize that other countries made change of their coins back in the day....going back to Greek and Roman times also. I don't believe it to be Spanish, but some European variety.....older than any Spanish milled cut silver/pistareen. May take some effort to track that one.

No what with an ID, hope you can figure it out. Looks old though.

Sorry I can't help with an ID, but it's a cool piece.

Interesting find although I don't think it's a coin. I used a circle to check the overall dimension of what it would have been as a whole. At this size it would have been nearly 50mm (two inches) as opposed to the 38mm of an 8 real. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1467176738.470305.jpg

If you look at how the fragment overlays on the silver coin, you'll see that the circumference doesn't match.ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1467176758.583312.jpg

Just my humble observations. Nice piece of silver though.

if it is silver and not of a cut coin - then it could be a piece broken off of some other object
or could be "cut silver" but off of something else silver - small square silver item bottom left
is "cut" silver it has script writing etched on it - it is the size of what they would call a "bit"
and a bit could buy you a pint of ale supposedly - so if a traveler did not have actual coinage
with him - he could break off or cut a piece off of a silver item - a plate - spoon whatever and still
make a purchase if both parties agreed on it - SO YOU MAY HAVE A PIECE OFF A BROKEN ITEM OR A PIECE GUY HAD IN HIS POCKET TO POSSIBLY GET A DRINK WITH

OH - That piece was found in a colonial field behind an old tavern and this one was found near another
colonial tavern - this one is cut silver coin and would be a "bit" piece
