I got out this evening for an hour and a half to the orchard. Still very hot and the deer flies are out in force !

The very first find came when I was hiking up to the top pasture where I found the NJ copper. About half way up the road I got a nice signal that caught me off guard. Right there on top of the dirt, in a tractor tire impression was a cut Large Cent looking at me ! Braided Hair, no date. The field gave me the thimble, and the button that looks like a Buffalo Nickle.
I took a different road back around to the house where my truck was parked. Sticking to the edges I pulled up one more button. This one has some sort of short cross on it. It looks pewter under the gilt. Any info on this one is a help. The last item is the round, flat lead object. It looks like it may have some sort of design on one side, the other is completely smooth. There is a hole to wear it on a string :icon_scratch: What do you think it is ?

Thanks for looking, VPR

I definetley know what you mean about the flies...you can't keep them off of your head. That orchard has been a nice spot for you lately...never seen a cut braided hair large cent.

Great buttons VPR! I like the one that looks like a buffalo nickel, never scene one like that before. :icon_thumright:

Congrats on the nice finds. The piece of lead looks like it could be a weight that went in a cape.

what a shame on the large cent clipped like that :( nice stuff as usual!

Thanks for the replies

There are finds from every time period at the "Orchard" My oldest finds being, NJ copper, Blacksmith token, musket balls, etc. I commonly find Lincoln Cents from the 1970's :icon_scratch:

I have to wait for second cut on his fields now as the grass is almost knee deep again. This fall when things die back I should be able to pull a few more keepers ;D

An interesting lot for sure. I like the piece with the cross on it.

I have a rather large orchard near by, and have often though of swinging there. Pretty sure I can get permission too.

That's LC Abuse!!!

What kind of person would dismember an innocent Large Cent like that??

Probably the same LC serial killer that got this one :laughing7:
