I dug this 1/4 cut piece of an 8 Reale.

Clearly, it was during the reign of one of the Charles' (III or IV).

My only problem is figuring out where it was minted and narrowing down the mint date.

I have yet to locate a specimen that has the "ET" above the left column on the obverse. In addition, the column has no crown. Neither does the center shield, interestingly enough. It is shifted upward, toward the top of the coin.

Can someone point me in the direction of an online resource that can help me narrow down date of minting and location?

Gracias ...

Thanks to daroofa, and the info on this site ...http://exonumismatics.com/pillar/pillar.html, I can safely say (based upon the ribbons on the bust and position of the "C" of Carolus in relation), that this is a Carolus IV - New Bust. With the 17 before the cut, this means it was minted between 1791 and 1799.
