A customer today brought in a little box of Civil War relics that he had purchased at a store can anybody identify the metal piece in the Middle with the holes in it is? I know I have seen it before but I cannot put my finger on it

Belt adjuster I believe.

DiggerKid's ID is correct. More specifically, it is the belt-length adjuster from a yankee civil war soldier's waist-belt. My computer is still dead, and I'm having to use a borrowed Notebook, so I cannot post a photo showing one on that type of soldier's belt.
