Ive owned my xlt for many years and have always used the programs it has come with .I run mostly in coin jewelry program with high volume and in mixed mode on .Doesnt seem to get the depth i would like ,although i do like the different tone between ferrous and non ferrous .When hunting the beaches here on cape cod i just run beach mode with mixed mode .If ive been missing out on things all these years because i havent come up with something better in customizeing .Also when relic hunting i would like something better than the program that comes in machine .
Any suggestions or help would be appreciated
Thanks and HH

Brad,
The factory machines are set at a very modest setting, so beginners can turn them on and hunt without too many problems.

The best thing you can do to increase the depth is to increase the sensitivity and pre-amp gain.
There is a procedure described in the books on how to maximize it. Basically you increase the pre-amp one "notch" and then the A.C. Sensitivity up until max, if the machine is still stable, go back and up the pre-amp again and repeat the process until the machine gets unstable, then back it down a little so it is huntable.

You mentioned the 2-tones, DONT get hung up on that!!!! I have dug MANY Civil War relics with the mixed mode on and not gotten the higher tone, it is usually because of the depth, the target metal, and/or other objects in the area. I too did the same thing when I first started, was basically hunting while sleeping waiting for the high pitched tone. Now I can only dream about all of the items I have walked over!!!

Hope this helps.
