Curious about detector maintenance

Hey gang,
I've been watching some videos on UTube and see some hunters that use pinpointers. It looks as if the pinpointers are not being gently used. I will be ordering a Garret Pro Pointer with my Xterra 705 purchase. Seeing how rough people are with their detectors sometimes I was curious if there is any maintenance that is typically done. I would assume that the product manuals/instructions will have manufacturers recommendations, but I was wondering if anyone has routine with their equipment. I would hate to have spent all of that money, only to find that I didn't properly care for the equipment. Thanks for your input!

I can only speak for the detector I use which is a Fisher 1266x which is at least 14 years old and still working like a pro. They are the most maintenance free detectors IMO, never had a single issue with mine and it works everytime as if it's brand new. Good luck on the Garrett, I hear there pretty good.

Be as rough or gentle with it as you wish, it's your gear. I think some people are pretty hard on their pinpointers, but I have never heard of anyone breaking the end off or scrubbing a hole in one.

congrats on choosing the Xterra. I really love mine. You should use a coil cover, and periodically take it off the coil and clean out the fine grit that gets in there. I wipe or rinse my rods off after every use because sand can get in the connectors and make it difficult to take the rods apart if you ever need to. I also check my coil bolt for signs it is getting ready to break.

also love my Propointer. It is really rugged and holds up to being banged around. Like my detector, I'd never leave it in a hot car for extended periods, and don't drop the whole thing in water, but otherwise don't worry about it.
