I posted this a couple weeks ago, but neglected to state that the 'coin' was slightly cupped/concave. I'm hoping that fact may ring a bell in someone's head. Any ideas? It was dug at a park that has revolutionary history. I've dug some musket balls there as well as a 1723 KG1. British and American troops moved through the area. The 'coin' was not too deep, maybe 8".

Coin collectors use the word 'scyphate' to describe concave (cup-like) coins; especially Byzantine coins.
Using that word in your search may get you quicker to your coin's ID.
