It's commonly called Onyx although it's not a true Onyx which is a variety of Chalcedony. It's probably limestone Onyx which is a variety of banded Calcite also commonly called Mexican Onyx or Honey Onyx. The "sugary" breakage is typical of calcite Onyx.
You can test it pretty easily. If it's Calcite it's soft enough to mark with a pocketknife and will bubble when exposed to acids. True Chalcedony Onyx does neither.
