Cru'Team 2009 - Year of the Gold Coin!

What a year we have had, mostly down to the good work of the XP, plus better site picking (research).

Coin Type 2007 2008 2009

Celtic Bronze 1 0 0
Celtic Silver 1 3 2
Celtic Gold 0 2 3
Roman Bronze 234 510 1193
Roman Silver 8 14 20
Saxon Sceat 0 0 2
Other Gold Coins 0 0 3
Hammered 39 45 108 (88 to me, Dad 20) Power of the XP

A friend asked us to do a Button count which will now continue every year - 3124 Pictured is the tub of rubbish buttons we don't keep, all the rest are sorted & put away.

Highlights of the year were not only the Gold Coins, including our oldest coin ever, but 2 Saxon Sceats which were a Wish List item for many years ;D
Also a Henry I hammered Penny recorded as the only one of its type at that mint.
Just about every type of Medieval Seal Matrix you could hope for!
Also nearly 100 Roman Bronze Coins a month!

2010 we will be hitting the right sites at the right times & hope to try harder than ever before. Bring it on :icon_thumright:

Is there a better hobby in the world? (no need to reply) :laughing9:

Amazing Cru.
I'm drooling just over the tub of "rubbish" buttons, let alone the GOLD!!!
You are indeed The Man. :icon_thumleft:

Re: Cru'Team 2009 - Year of the Gold Coin!

I'd say VERY impressive but that would be a major understatement. Just one of those coins would be a find of a lifetime, never mind finding all of them in the same year!! Congrats and am glad to see all your hard work and research pay off for you. ALWAYS look forward to your posts and the fantastic coins and relics you have been able to unearth. Not sure how you could top this past year, but I hope 2010 is an even better year for you!!! :notworthy:

Re: Cru'Team 2009 - Year of the Gold Coin!

Crusader,

Reading your posts during 2008 was a great experience for me--but this year has been absolutely incredible. What a total on the Roman scrappies alone. And the hammered silver total is amazing. The photo of the six gold coins is enough to turn anyone into a detectorist. :o

I am having a drink tonight in your honor at the local pub.

Best Wishes and Congratulations on a Stellar Year, my friend.

Re: Cru'Team 2009 - Year of the Gold Coin!

Thanks everyone for the nice comments.

I am sitting here at the beginning of the year, wondering how we can improve on last year like we have improved every year previously. I can only think it will be via the help of our good friend 'Land-Magnet' (prasutagus) who has under our coaching completed a very successful first year of hunting. He has managed to secure permission for many new farms which we (especially him) have done hours of historical research on. The amount of land (thousands of acres) which he has gained in a year took us nearly 10 to get.
Therefore, with his help & our 'targetted' approach to next year I know we will record & map some amazing sites. Whether they decide to give up there treasures we can only find out in time.

Therefore I extend ours thanks to prasutagus who has bolstered our success this year & I'm sure will support us in this one :icon_thumright:

Add me to your digging "cru"!

Now that is some kind of year. I'm trying to picture what it would look like if you posted EVERYTHING for 2009.

Some might see your post and blow it off thinking it's just because you're in the UK, but being someone who has followed your posts for quite a while I know how much effort you put in. If that's not enough, just the fact your last few years have been the best ever is proof you can't just pick up a detector there, hunt anywhere, and post quailty finds on a regular basis. Shaun wheelless-7 sure can't! LOL Anyway, that's a kicka$$ year and it sure will be great when we all get around to digging again.

Crusader...you don't keep all those buttons? Do a contest on here with all the ones you don;t keep as a prize, I am sure there are some button collectors in the forum that would LOVE to have some of them for their collection?

Not a bad idea, although a heavy one to post to the US.
They really are just plain ones, mostly with no backmarks.

Re: Cru'Team 2009 - Year of the Gold Coin!

What do you do with them?

Stick them in a bigger tub of crap & sell them. (I sell very little, in fact I only sell what I used to chuck)

Re: Cru'Team 2009 - Year of the Gold Coin!

Do you just take them to the scrapyard? I might start doing that, got a big tub of junk in the garage..

As a rule of thumb. Crap sells above what you expect & what its worth. Quality sells for a fraction of its worth. I had a saying for ebay "Crap sells for Quality Prices, Quality sells for Crap Prices".
If you need any tips, send me a Personal Message. I have years of ebay experience to help you out.
