Hi everyone I usually just metal detect but I do dabble with bottle collecting when I find them. So today I was detecting around an old mill that burned down in the early 1900s. Didnt find anything besides this bottle sticking out of the bank. I usually don't bother picking up screw tops but this one is different it's very crudely made and the threads look like they were applied separately and the seam doesn't completely go up the neck of the bottle. I'm just curious of age and use. Thanks in advance. -Justin

Howdy Justin,

You've got a catsup or sauce bottle from the last 2 decades of the 19th Century. Nice example of a very commonly found bottle.

I agree with surf.Catsup bottle, the whole bottle was blown in the mold seams and all, then the top was polished. late 1890s

Thats a good example of an early screw-top.

Very cool thanks everyone for the good info it will look in my growing collection.
