Found this iron crucible in 09 in nc in my yard. It is 63/4 tall, about 4" wide at widest The wall thickness varies from 1/2 to less than a 1/4. Looks like there is frozen metal in cavity. I am a metal caster so finding this
Was kind of cool anyway haven't found any info any where about it. Thanks all.

Are you sure it's a crucible? Being iron it could only be used for materials with about half the melting point of iron. In the foundry I worked at they were graphite, porcelain, ceramic or alumina.

Would also be a pain to dump. Most small ones have a side post to tip and pour.

Though I have nothing better for an answer. Interesting whatever it is. I'll be watching this one!

Wow u could be right!! Must be old as it is not simetrical thanks!!! As far as iron crucibles we used them for pouring aluminum.

That would work. Aluminum melts at 1,221°F and iron at 2,800°F. Less than half.

We did iron and bronze.
