Screen shot 2018-09-27 at 9.20.36 PM.png-I suspected it was an inkwell and found one similar one (one large three small holes) on line and a collection of 7 from Skinner Auctions. This one is 3 5/8 across ad 1.5 high. My question is when were these used? Any info welcome.I found it in the 1820 house I had just purchased. I'm dyin' to rip the wood floor that needs replacing in the basement and get down to dirt !!

A quick search turned up these with their suggested age.
The Crolius one is imprinted with 1779.
Late 1700 - early 1800 seems to fit the best ?
