Found this where an old farm used to be. It looks like a canteen but it is crimped all the way around. 4 inch diameter. There are some holes from corrosion. Is it auto/ farm machine related?
Thanks for your input

This is just a guess. When I moved into my house there was a crate of old motor oil bottles in my basement, and that closely resemble the lids.

Another guess? I have seen that some where. I'm guessing vacuum reservoir for governor or windshield wiper system?

Another possibility is the body of an old "pancake" oiler

You're right. Does look like an old float.

it reminds me of a stock tank heater .

Thanks for all the suggestions. Calling it solved as a float or pancake oiler.
