Anyone do any treasure hunting in the form of reward money? Crime Stoppers, Bounty Hunting, Rewards... Like most, my state and surrounding counties all have updated lists of various fugitives with various rewards leading to their apprehension. Some list last known address and I found it easy to snoop around and find relatives. None close enough to me to keep an eye out for yet but you never know. All rewards are totally anonymous. Most of the really bad guys with big rewards in my area are probably deep in Mexico by now. The small time drug crimes, failure to appear, robbery etc. all have rewards of at least $500. Wouldn't take much effort to drive by the parents house of a wanted criminal, "possibly" spot the criminal, report it, cops come, maybe they apprehend, maybe you get reward. Treasure in my book. Anyone?

Haven't done that, don't know anyone who has.
If you do I would hope you safeguard your identity and what keeps who ever makes the arrest from claiming the reward?

I do not think that police get rewards for apprehending criminals but I could be wrong. If they do then I guess you are at the mercy of their honor. The CrimeStoppers website goes into great detail about how the person who makes the tip is kept anonymous. Tips can be made by phone, email, text or smoke signal... Then you get "cash" or so they claim. Never meant anyone who has claimed a reward, hoping for input. We all know the fast talk at the end of the commercial, don't let your baby fall in the toilet, coffee is hot lawyer mumbo... Yes it could be dangerous, but safety is a relative term. If the government promotes the program, it has to be safe. :)

P.S. I wonder if it is legal to split the reward with the criminal you turn in? Meaning, if you were to run an ad on Craigslist guaranteeing a smooth arrest, last meal, whatever in exchange for making sure half of the reward goes to whoever... If a fugitive knows they can't go much longer, prefers an honorable arrest, and gets some cash, their could be takers. But there goes the anonymous factor...

That's an idea but then maybe the fugitive would just have his family turn him in and keep it all $ in the family.
Bounty hunters make a living doing it but they have more "tools" to use.
It is a form of treasure hunting.
I guess having some sort of investigating training maybe useful.
If you very good at asking the right questions and don't mind a lot of watching and waiting it may be a good opportunity for you.
I think I will stick to finding things, my reflexes aren't what they used to be.
If you think it's something you'd like to try, go for it. Just prepare your self the best you can, and use your head. GL!
