Hey, welcome,

Sounds like you attend some interesting yard sales. Me, I like sneakers. Hip waders can be kinda warm.

It's hard to say the water gets pretty deep at some of those garage sales........

I don't like walking around all day waiting for my feet/boots/socks to dry.
I like Teva river shoes. The Velcro always held up wading in water. They float if you try and swim in them, hard to kick.
I get a new pair of Tevas every year. Been buying them for 15 years or so. Their quality has changed over the years and they are made in China, but I haven't found any I like better.

In the last few years I haven't found a pair of shoes that were worth wearing after they got wet. May want to get something made for walking in the water. So where is these flooded out garage sales? Bet your getting bargains?

Dr. T I tried to hunt down the Tevas and did find one pair but only online. I liked the design with the drainage feature but couldn't wait for the order to arrive. Had to settle for a pair Merrell Yokota Waterproof Trail shoes. They sport (no pun intended) a Microbe shield against stains, fungus, and odor. Good thing because I'm sweating in them already and haven't hit the beach yet. Seem comfortable. Can't say more till I try 'em out. I guess they'll be warmer for winter outings. Time restraints prevented me from researching them out ahead of time. Hoping for the best. Thanks for the tip. I'll be checking out the Tevas when I hit a place that has them on the shelves for comparison. Probably Cabella's or Bass Pro.

This post is in a sub-forum of 'Treasure Hunting' called 'Garage Sale finds'.

But you can still be on the lookout for good shoes at Garage sales and estate sales.

LOL. First let me welcome you to the TreasureNet forum. There are subject boards on all aspects of treasure hunting on this site from gold panning to dumpster diving and then some. You may have wanted to post over here instead-
General Discussion

At any rate, we are glad to have you and are looking forward to your posts. Happy hunting and good luck. Keep us posted!

PS- What state you hunting in?

You could look at scuba boots at your garage sales or a dive shop. They come up above the ankle and keep out almost all water even if you submerge them.
I use them in the surf and they keep all of the sand out but some water does get in.

I have found that regular tennis shoes-sneakers work best for me, also you might want to try this question in the beach and shallow water forum on this site. Good Luck!.................Scott.

Wetsuit boots for me..

I like the quote from George Orwell.
Thanks for the heads-up. All anyone needed to say was -Wrong Discussion Forum-try.......
I take some of the blame for not reading enough in the intro. I should know better.
I'm beginning in N.J. but I'll probably roost in PA.
Thanks to those who suggested the scuba boots-sounds like another winner.
Heading to the General Discussion-I'll be back to vote on the Merrel Trail shoes for those helped out here. Appreciate all.

Will check out the beach and shallow...thanks

There is debate as to whether it is his quote, but I like it nonetheless.
You'll find there are many with a sense of humor around here, it's all in good fun though.
For what it's worth, I don't hunt creeks and streams (though I would prefer to) but I do wear water shoes when beach hunting.
Good luck and keep us posted. There are many members here from both states.

You can find water shoes with velcro straps, just look for the ones with toe caps if your streams are rocky. I've used them to look for sharks teeth in FL, go tide-pooling in San Diego. And no, you can find cheap ones that will work until you can afford the expensive ones. Just make sure they fit you well.
Have fun!

If minimal sharp rocks and shells at your spots...all kinds of kayak booties (neoprene with rubber soles). If you go with sandals check out Chaco brand (Z2 model). I have been using them for about 15 years. Unbelievably comfortable, infinately adjustable. They have the loop for your big toe, which gives incredible stability and grip. I have hiked in the White mountains for years with a 30-40lb pack with no problems. The "river sole" gives incredible grip on wet rocks.

Very helpful: But I'm in the wrong forum. I'll hang onto the info and appreciate the worthy tips.
