image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgI don't know anything about rocks but my son really wants to know something about this so he can look it up & learn about it (ie why the outside looks so different & what the mineral is that's visible on the end broken off). The pics are the same rock, just looks different when light hits it. image.jpg
 

Some kind of a crystal formation created in a softer rock cavity that has since eroded away is the best guess I can think of... Post it in the rocks and minerals forum also. I have seen fossils that have crystallized kind of like that in limestone before. Who know could be a fossilized soft body of an ancient squid :dontknow:
