Agreed. It looks like a portion of the carapace. This one is marine (I only chose it because it shows the arrangement nicely), but freshwater will look similar:

I wouldn't assume it has been gnawed. The suturing that holds them together will look like that after breakage and a bit of weathering:

Yeah at a glance looked like rodent chew marks like on an antler shed. Didn’t know anything about turtle shells until just now. I’ve learned so much from this Treasure hunting hobby.
