I've been hunting a home site where the circa 1800 house was intentionally burned down this winter to make way for progress The site was settled around the mid-late 1700s but I have yet to find anything older than 20th C. This was a country farmhouse and from what I've been told it didn't even have indoor plumbing until the 1960s or 70s. During the last week I've started finding a few keepers - 2 mercury dimes 1920 & 1940 and then I still can't believe it - but a 1965 5 Island Aurar from Iceland! So wild!!
Today I went to a different site - a large Colonial field that has been hunted many, many times. I was only able to wrangle some iron, some lead - including a big musket ball - weighs 27g! A toasted large cent (#3 copper for me this year!) and a broken butterfly barrette. I will be back there though - I love the challenges
Thanks for looking!
Here's a picture I took last month or what remains of the 1800 house-
