Hey all,
Had a chance to get into the crawlspace of my old house today. It was built in 1912.
Only coin I found was a new penny, couldn't tell the year, as it was in bad shape. There is a lot of stuff on the surface I'm going to have to get out of the way before detecting it properly, like nails, old metal duct, glass bottles, all broken, and lots of other junk...

With all the thick old bottle I seen that were all broken, there was this old, I believe to be early 1900's light bulb...
I couldn't believe it... :o

Also found this old " Shinola tin " it's got a pat. date of 1905, but not sure of how old it would actually be...

A few other things I grab, before the dust got to me, was an old " Black Pepper can ", and I think a part of a wooden Halloween lamp.

I think I'm going to spray the whole thing down with a hose, as it is very dry, and dusty. Then try to clean up the surface so I can detect...
Hope you all got out today, and had a great time...
Good luck & Happy huntting~

Those are some great finds, Leon. Don't forget to check the beams on top of the foundation. Now if someone tells you you don't know s**t from shinola , at least you can show Them what shinola is. HAHA HH. It might not hurt to throw a couple bug bombs under there a while before you crawl in after those prizes.

Antique Hollowween items are huge.? There are alot of collectors.? Maybe it's? part of a noise maker of some kind.

Cool stuff Leon. Be forewarned that if you hose down your crawl space, it will be the greasiest mess you've ever seen. The dust is so fine that when you wet it, it'll make a layer of mud on top of the dirt. It'll roll right off the dry dirt and onto you. It's literally like grease. If you do spray it down, roll out some visquine to crawl on. Good luck~CO2

Sounds like a good place to try some sifting. Put together one using hardware cloth and go at it. Do a section at a time and be careful down there.

Crawl spaces are great areas to check. Think the area down here is the oldest place on the property that has not changed, much, since th home was built. However thre hasnt been much traffic across the area. Dont forget to checkthe basement floors out there.

Crawl spaces just aren't made for fat old guys like me. I can't hardly tie my shoes let alone crawl under a house anymore. Great finds. YOU EARNED THEM! Spotz

Thanks for all the great replies!
The light bulb is blowed, you can see the small wires dangling inside. still no definite ID on it, but it's very similar to the Edison Mazda bulbs from around 1900 to 1920. I still can't believe after seeing all them thick old cork top bottles broken laying in a pile, that the bulb made it through without being broke. The bulb was laying in the pile with them. I'ts really surprizing how much a blowed light bulb will bring on e-bay. Also, while doing a search on the bulb, I found some pics of some of the old gas lamps that were in a lot of these old houses. I think I might have seen one of them down there, and threw it off to the side thinking it was just an old gas valve, I'll have to check that out alittle closer...
Good one, Stoney... I've always heard that saying," Ya don't know _h_t from Shinola ", and in a strange way it's always been true... I'm still not exactly sure what Shinola was.... Was it just a shoe polish, or was it use for other things? My Ol' lady seems to think it was use as an all around polisher... Haven't had any time to look it up.
Thanks for the tip on the Halloween items, Haupin, I didn't know that...

As for the crawlspcae, I'm definitely going back in... Maybe wear my resperator, and some gogles...

Haupin isn't exagerating . I was at a Public Auction last year, And those Cardboard Halloween Decorations , were bringing $30.00 Minimum. The Ones with Moving parts were going for $100.00 Plus. I can remember when they came in a Pack for a couple Bucks.

Nice finds Leon,I knew I should've checked the crawlspace of that old farmhouse in KY. last summer.I just don't like spiders, maybe i'll have to visit in the winter next time.Shoot,I didn't even make it into the attic because of that!Good luck and H.H.!

Hi ya, Kieth...
I had put here I thought it was a lamp because of the hole that run through it, but I did a search on ebay, and have to change my opinion...
It appears this is an old noise maker made in CZECHO-SLOVAKIA? ( a kazoo, recorder, etc... ) Still can't find anything other than on ebay.. They have a few different types, none of them are exactly the same as the one I have...
Here is a link to one that looks close to the one I have:http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=88901&item=6511819076&rd=1&tc=photo
Thanks for the extra interest,, it got me off my butt to do a search....

I love this hobby... ;D
At first I thought I had just an interesting piece to an old lamp, but it turns out, it's a complete object....
Makes my day....

Sad today... :'(
I was going to ask the forum today if there was anything I should to these finds to preserve them...
It's too late, the bottom of the noise maker was a seperate piece clued on, and it has split,,, due to the humidity chacnge I guess...
It now has about a 1/16" gap it in... Anyone know what you should do for something old, & wooden when you find it...
Also, the Shinola tin is a little ruff, but I'd like to keep it from gettting any worse,,,, Any suggestions?
