I notice several folks here reference Craigs List to get leads or to offer services for their metal detecting. Just curious what category you may list these services in to get results. Also wondering if you only offer your services to recover lost items or how you may list just to get leads to hunt private areas. I am considering trying this to see what type of leads or requests I may get and would like to know if it worked for you.

I,ve seen them listed in the "lost & found" down here.I have seen ads that are written both ways. One for an hourly rate and one offering their services for free with the first lines being "Live in an old house? Ever wondered what's buried in your yard?"

It will give an idea of what to put on Craigs and where to list your ad. We've had great success with this method.
Good luck,

I've only received a few good leads from my CraigsList posting ~ The place where I found the two $10 gold coins was from my Craig's listing!!! I put my listing in the for sale "WANTED" category.

I just posted two test adds

Under GENERAL :

Wanted Lost Parks, treasures, etc.

Do you know of an old Park or Church Grove ? old Home, or church site ?
old French & Indian war site , etc.
is it now grown over ? do you or someone you know own the land ?

Do you know a story of a local Buried Cache (Treasure).

do you know of any other intresting tales or sites I may be intrested in.

Are you willing to let me search it with a Metal Detector ?

Northern Dauphin, Western Schuylkill, Northern Lebanon counties.

I do not Charge to search anywhere.

Location: schuylkill county, and surrounding

And

under real estate services :

Live in an old House ?

Does your Home date to the 1850's or older ?

Northern Dauphin, Western Schuylkill, Northern Lebanon Counties.

Lost anything in your Yard ? Curious what may be Buried there ?

I have a Metal detector & would be intrested in Searching it.

I do not charge, IF I am allowed to keep at least half of my finds.

Location: schuylkill county

If you are willing to split the stuff you find, you can post under the "Free" section because people love that one and title it "Free Treasure...". The catch is that they have to let you detect on their OLD property and then you will split half the booty. Of course, thats if you share ;)

I just added this to Lost & Found.

I find lost Jewelry

Have you lost a Ring ? other Metal Keepsake ?

I have a Metal detector and if you know the general area
I will search for it for you.

I do not charge a fee.

Northern dauphin, northern Lebanon, Western schuylkill counties

Location: schuylkill county & surrounding area

Wow...I have been using Craislist for quite a while now and never thought to post an add like this.
I posted one this morning and within the hour I had two replies...Here they are:

Reply 1:
I am not a digger but I love the old houses and history. on the corner of Route ** and Snake Run Road (in sp****le)? is a house I fell in love with yrs ago, It was actually already on an 1869 map, as I talked to the lady up the hill who owned the property, and found out some history her son farms around the house now and I don't even know If she is still alive, and they are just letting it fall in, when I first saw this house about 11 yrs ago MANY original tintypes etc..were still Inside, old clocks, bikes pictures etc...-- all of it! to me this house is beautiful, to think It has been there since the days of Lincoln!! I If you do check this place out please keep in touch to let me know If you find anything. I would love to have even the smallest relic from here or just to know what is left before the house is gone~Sheila

Hey there,
I live out in ******, NY. My family has always talked about my Grandfathers huge coin collection. Before he passed he started hiding things EVERYWHERE! I found a box of old pistols a few years ago when I was cleaning out the rafters in the barn. I guess he started getting paranoid that people were taking his stuff? My son also found an old knife in a tree knot in the back lot. If you want to come and detect a little I guess that would be ok. We would have to draw up a contract in the case that you found his coin collection. It would have to be split up more like 70-30 but it was supposedly worth many thousands, like in the tens of thousands. Let me know if thats ok with you.

Looks like I will be staying busy for a little while ;)

Wow! Very nice...I too have been posting on Craigslist, with a couple of replies....if the weather holds up this weekend, will be hitting a spot...will post finds and updates.
Good luck and HH
