crab grass

Any suggestions on how to dig through this evil plant? It is flat wearing me out every time I get a hit. I am just using a garden trowel so obviously I need something different, but I am not ready to spend $40-$50 on a Lesche tool just yet.

try one of the small military surplus shovels to cut thru the crabs, then use your trowel for the easier dirt underneath:wrench_orange:

Whats so hard to understand that you are not using the right tools, an a Lesche isn't it.

Sandman maybe you could be so kind to let us know what is? I have a free gator that some have said is not worth -_ _it (guess thats why they give em away for free) So far in this mid west clay it has done what ever I have thrown at it.... cuts small roots, trailers and yes crab grass even some frost lately. Matter of fact I wear out before it does. Before I started using it I used a Lowes garden trowel $8 and never had a problem with that other than it was green and lost it a few times. If I'm understanding Sandman, I agree and really think the whole gotta have a Lesche is way over rated.

All i have used for several years is a small garden STYLE shovel with maybe a two in wide blade five inches long with inches marked on it. Its not a regular garden shovel though, its heavy duty well built and i dig packed gravel with it at times not fun but i'm sure it would handle the crab grass. I'm not sure who makes it but i bought it from my dealer. Ok just looked its made by dalyn enterprises bradshaw ne. i have 2 and have found them to work well for me hope this helps.

I use a Lesche for easy stuff, and an entrenching tool for digging. I've seen some use a short handled hoe for crab grass with good results.

Mornin' all, well I have been using the Gator digger that I got with my Ace 250 an I haven't had any problems yet, granted I've only been out a few times but still some parts of the ground was kind of hard...

As long as the ground isn't petrified, a good sharp digger and/or a large screw driver will take care of crab grass. I don't like carrying anything as big as a pick or shovel.

Try this and sharpen the edges a little, it's only about $6 at Lowes

I bought one of these at the garden center of our big home improvement store. I works very well and it was only $7.99. I have had a Lesche before and I now have one of the Garrett diggers, that looks like a Lesche, but this little Ames tool is what I grab the most for use in grassy areas.
