lol, perhaps I read too many of StrikeItRichs' posts ;D

Seriously though...Echostar61 (Terri) and myself did some MDing Friday. We'd both managed a good amount of coins, sadly it was all clad, but we were both happy nevertheless. I think I'd walked away with 70 pennies, 2 nickles, 7 dimes, and 7 quarters. This (86 coins) was my (newbie) "PB" regarding # of coins from one hunt.

I just wondered if anyone ever tracked their "coins per hour" from dividing their finds by the time hunted?

Too much time on my hands,
Smitty

Somewhere I have seen that somebody had worked out a formula for that. Personally, I don't see the point unless one has a great desire to compare different locations as to success rate. My coin count varies a lot from location to location and once recently hunted by myself or others the next hunt would probably differ considerably anyway. Trying to keep track of all the nuances of my machine taxes my brain enough. LOL
Dig often, dig deep.

Smitty...when I am in a rhythm I can find 30 an hour in dirt....but remember that is also picking up... digging surface pennies. Today in 2 hours and 10 minutes I got a little under $7 in clad. In woodchip a coin a minute in the right tot lot...but not to often. Funny you mentioned coins per hour...I used to keep track but now I have started passing on any cents I think are clad...well at least 60% anyways... What I have seen this month is my clad totals jump and my coins per hour drop...that is one of my goals for next year...less coins..but higher dollar amounts and more quality digs...

Just another note...I think pcv is much more interesting...per coin value...simply dividing your dollar amount by coins found and moving decimal point over to the right one...another thing I am going to improve next year by digging less pennies...

And dont forget to figure in the temperature,my poor fingers are slow when they are frozen ;D. A really great clad hunt,44 total coins for me(my best for a single hunt),31 of which were pennies. Thanks again Smitty for another fun hunt :).

It was just a thought that popped into my head. I do keep a "log" with dates, sites, and finds, but won't carry it out to the extent of "CPH", atleast not on a regular basis. Also, it wouldn't be a fair anaylsis because I found about 20 pennies in a 1' square area.

I like that "PCV" as well.....maybe next time I have too much time.....lol

It was mid-40's Terri.....what are you gonna do when we're hunting in blizzard conditions?? I'll be sure & bring extra iced-tea for 'ya ;D Maybe some of those gloves with battery-operated heaters . lol I had a good time as well. We're due for some old finds........

I've had times on our beaches here, after storm erosion, where I've done 100-ish coins per hour, for up to 3 hr. straight at a time. When you factor in fishing sinkers, car keys, etc... THINK about how fast the target action is? You could scarcely throw out that many targets onto a parking lot, and then go out to pick them up, by hand that fast. In other words, it's as "fast as you can dig". You're just putting one into the apron, and you're already getting multiple beeps in front of you :P

Thanks I think lol I perfer Rpm or ringpulls per minute

I guess I am different from most as I hunt for quality rather than quantity. I do find clad all the time but rarely do I find a zinc cent as I try to hit old sites. My coin count per hour is quite low as I dig a lot of trash making sure I don't miss that elusive ring or nickel. Don't get me wrong, I like clad and it buys extra coils and such but my detecting time is precious and I would rather search for good finds than just dig a lot of new coins.

Adding up the total divided by hours hunted will give us an average, but not an exact coins per hour.........with that said, I have the only time I know I was at a place for only an hour and counted my coins, I had 34. I remember one 3 coin spill and two or three 2 coin spils. Sometimes it's been 10 or less coins an hour.

Best,
Ricardo
