Hey folks. I was driving by the old Lee County courthouse and saw a guy finishing up at a project. I asked if I could swing it and he replied "Knock yourself out." So I did and managed a few old relics but, sadly no old coins. I do really like the big lead pin. It's gotta' be pretty old for sure. Also got a few tiny buttons or parts of buttons. Enjoy the pictures. Wish I had cooler finds. Maybe next time. Kurios1

Not every place produces old coins, but you never know! Totally worth giving it a shot, and you found some nice stuff. I am willing to hit every patch of dirt or grass anywhere anytime lol.

Love those old tearouts, you gotta hit 'em when you can - odds are you won't have another chance again in your lifetime once they get covered up and paved over.

Kurios, there's gotta be an old silver or two hiding close by...I say you commandeer that skid steer and grab a few buckets of old dirt! Cool stuff...Ddf

Congrats on your finds Kurios. Its always worth the try, and thats what we are out there for. At least you did it, and now dont have to ever wonder "what if" ?

there is only one way to find out if there is anything good and that is to swing it, then it is what it is for the good, the bad and the ugly....what? ain't no ugly here! good job

Good work jumping on that opportunity. The big lead pin is a rosette, probably pewter. Maybe you could post close ups of the buttons?

As a highly trained material handler I reckon I could figure out that Bobcat and scrape a few paths across the courthouse lawn.:headbang: I did manage one Memorial penny in this section of tearout. I worked every inch of it possible vertically and darn near standing on my head if necessary but, no oldies this time.

Exactlly. I do have a few regrets of not jumping on some construction spots or not staying a little later and having them covered in gravel the next day. I got me another piece of history so it's all good.:icon_thumright:

I got one button and a rivet back to a button I believe. The tiny button may be a snap type button and has a "K" in a circle and the name Kenwedy's Mark? Never heard of them and couldn't find anything out in my searches.

Kurios, I'm sure you have it covered, but the dirt they removed...is it still there and did you swing over it? At our very old fairgrounds they dug a 3 foot wide, 1 foot deep trench through the parking lot where a lot of nice silvers have been found...the ditch itself was clean but I snagged a BEAUTY of a Barber dime out of the pile of dirt! Ddf

Great question. No, I am not sure where they hauled the dirt to if any was taken away. There were large slabs of stone along this section. I think some of them can be seen in the pictures. They are putting in a new retaining wall I believe. I am going back through there tomorrow. I will stop and see if they indeed hauled away any dirt and if I might be able to chase it down for a swing. Thanks for brining up a good point.:icon_thumleft:
