Couple of weird Whatsits

I have no clue on either of these. On the first whatsit, 6 inches deep, the longer piece was attached to before I "accidently" broke it off. It was attached at a small hole on outer lip of what is left of the larger piece. It measures appoximately 2 " x 2". Largest Gear is 1". Longer pieces is 2.5"

The second whatsit feel like lead and cuts like it too. I'm not sure if it is just a slab, or if the weird pattern once were intentional. It is fairly heavy measures 3" x 3/8". Thanks for any help.

The first piece looks like a side plate off of a fishing real. The long piece has the grove for the level wind.
