I actually love the beach tag - ones from last week had no writing other than #s
funny - before we got to the beach - I mentioned 2 things - 1) that Ive only gotten a few at this spot over the yrs (last was like 15 yrs ago)
2) that I wish the ones last week would have had writing on them with beach name or whatever (last one from here had name on it)
I got in and got a few junk targets - place gets cleaned out in the Fall by locals - I was trying to get something deep down or out at low tide at my limits
3rd target was faint and was hoping I might have a sil.coin - was surprised when I saw brass tag - more surprised when I wiped the blackened coating and saw writing on it
what is awesome is I knew the name on it "RUDD'S" - the other I found here has RUDD'S on it too - for yrs I had that other tag in my coffee table display
case - I thought that RUDD'S was an old beach name but research revealed nothing - last year I was researching this beach and accidentally came across an early 1900's
picture postcard that instead of showing pic of the beach - showed businesses that used to occupy it's boardwalk...and there it was -RUDD'S !
it was an early bath house/ changing rooms/lockers and you could rent swim suits - tag was from a locker. There may be other hunters that have found one - ive
never seen or heard of one. A lot of hunters i know would probably just throw them away - they are in it for the gold & silver and throw old keys, tags and brass buckles in scrap or in trash.
To me this is a collectible piece - probably many locals that would love to have it - it will go into my display table next to the other at the end of the season
Silver half was a whisper - took lot of scooping thru deep rocks - thought it was just a sil.quarter when I saw it in bottom of scoop
so big surprise when I plucked it out - walking liberty
rings are junk - one is marked 18k HGE = heavy gold electroplate - wish i could have found the old blob top bottle intact - think its late 1800s
