I started scuba diving class which takes up 6 hours on Sunday so I haven't had a chance to get out as much as I would like and detect. I was able to get out this Saturday, however, and detect an older area. The owner of the property just closed on 31 acres of land that used to belong to his great grandfather. According to the owner, his great grandfather built the house there around 115 years ago. I detected it for some time and found a lot of older pull tabs and this 1938 Washington quarter. I was happy about the quarter, its always nice to find silver, but was a little disappointed that I didn't find anything older. After I put my detector in the trunk I talked to the owner for about a half an hour. He owns a grading company and has done some "dirt work" to the property removing brush, trees and the first layer of dirt off from a good portion of the property. He told me that back in his great grandfather's day there used to be a horse and buggy trail about 300 yards from where the house is now and that is where the original house used to be. The state built the current road in the 1930's and newer owners moved the house closer to the current road for access around 1937. It made sense why I didn't find anything older than this 1938 Washington. The owner said that while clearing brush, he found a lot of metal debris from when the house was moved from and showed me where the house used to be. Hopefully the newer area will produce more finds and the older area where the house used to be will produce some worthy finds as well.

(One of my favorite coins is a Mercury Dime and I have never found one. I have found an 1837 half dime, 2 barber dimes and an 1800s no date dime but never a Mercury Dime...I think the spot where I found the 1938 quarter is an ideal spot to find one)

Also, attached is a belt buckle from "C High School" that I found at my grandparent house about 2 weeks ago. I think it is from an old high school that has been closed down here in Charlotte. "Central High School"

I found a WWI medal about 2 weeks ago as well. I left it at home and haven't taken a picture of it yet; I'll update this post once I take a picture of it. It's a medal presented "By The Great State of North Carolina For Honorable Service"-- The front says "World War Service"

Thanks for looking,

Daniel

Neat finds -- silver quarters have been tough to come by for me -- I am sure the Mercs will come -- seems like most of my silver finds are Mercs, which is ok with me since I love the look of the Mercs also -- keep us updated on your new site -- best of luck!! ;D
