Doing a little research lately I was able locate the area of an old homesite. There were a few homes dating back to the mid to late 1800s. They have all since been torn down. My son and I started in a spot where our buddy found some indian heads and where we had previous found some wheat pennies. This time it was just clad, bottle caps and pull tabs. :-[ So I decided to branch off and search for another torn down home while I let Nate work on the pull tabs and bottle caps. I spotted a couple trees that could have been 100 years old and sure enough - there was a filled in well. 8) Was rewarded with the sleigh bell and old spoon. :) Didn't have enough time to check the area so we will go back after this cold weather.

The lock plate or whatever it is was found last week at another "old" park. I don't think that it's that old.

Nice site....I just posted about those old bells ! Congrats on a sweet Bell and looking forward to the next post....Seeker

Here is what I came up with on the Bell you have found:

Bell was made by William E. Barton, born 1826? . W.E. probably started making bells in the 1840's . A W.E. Barton Bell has six petals total. The Petals touch along their eedges.
It is marked with a running horse on the upper half of the bell & "W.E.B." on the lower . A (#2 ) Bell is 1 3/8 inch diameter. Four holes in the base. Rivitstyle Base. Cal. 1840's to 1880 . Sizes vary with numbers....Hope this helps.....Seeker :)

Looks like that place has some good possiblilities. I love that bell, Mirage. It's a keeper.

nice finds. i take it that you dig all signals? i like the bell

Bryan - most of the time I do not dig all signals but once you find something good then I do. And when you say "all".... there is a lot of iron in the area so I was discriminating out the iorn. I tried a little "all metal mode" but it was too difficult. I might try lowering my sensitivity and going with relic. The bell and spoon gave high signals. I dig very few pull tabs with the Quattro but it likes bottle caps. :P

I was just telling Seeker on one of his post, only bells I have found were from one of our old wind chimes from the front porch...
Good luck, & Happy hunting~

Nice relics Dave, Tsgman

I think that it is a double key lock plate and if it is that is the most interesting thing that you have there they are rare dont see them much. Takes two different keys to open it think I would do some more checking around at that site but then thats just me Noel
