Wow, what a day. After 5 hours of hunting at an old resort in the Berkshires, I left virtually empty-handed, sporting both bug bites and sore back. Driving back home, feeling kind of depressed, I decided to quickly swing through a section of woods that I'd been eyeing for a while.

Not ten minutes in I get a beautiful signal and out pops a King George from 5 inches down in the dry dirt. I couldn't believe it. Boy did I choose the wrong place this morning. Unfortunately I had to get into work so I high-tailed it back towards my car. Casually swinging my Fisher I was getting a lot of iron hits, then all of a sudden whammo, another solid hit. About the same depth as the first I get this beautiful copper, nice legible 1778, in pretty darn good shape.

Man, what a riot this hobby is.

I'll try to get some better pictures after work with a little more detail.

Guess where I'm going in the morning?

No it's better, it's a nice legible 1718! Maybe a short hunt, but a good one!

I bet there's more keepers where they came from.

So where are you going in the morning? :D

Id spend some time at that site. May be a little spanish silver there waiting to be found.

Thanks Iron Patch. Holy Cow, I had no idea! I couldn't figure out why I wasn't finding any 1778 varieties that looked like this one when I quickly scanned my book.

Makes it my oldest coin to date!

Yeah, now really really pumped.......

Looks like a good old site you have there. I'll bet in my 10 years of hitting the fields I've only found 5 or 6 George I coppers, and the only British I have that are older are a couple of worn William IIIs. So in other words you're off to a heck of a start!

PS... Definitely dig every target that's above iron. The best find at a Colonial era site is often not a coin signal.

Oh yeah, nice coppers :icon_thumleft:  I'd spend all Sunday in there!

Nice coppers. Imagine what you might have found had you spent 5 hours there.

Definitely set the alarm clock early. I look forward to seeing your next post !!!

Good luck.

The other copper is definitely a George II...17?0...looks like 50? Still trying to get better pics.
