Counterstruck '49er Large Cent

Found this a couple weeks ago at the same site my buddy and I detected (see post entitled "Epic Hunt..." about a month ago. The post of a recent counterstruck LC made me remember I had this. It's kind of interesting with a triangle that is bisected, with numbers in the upper section and the initials RAM in the lower part. I checked HEAVYMETALNUT's link on counterstrikes and could not find it. I also like it because of the date "1849." Unfortunately, it was struck at least four times by the "striker." Any ideas on what this may have been used for??? :icon_scratch:

Maybe for a Masonic chapter? - RAM could be Royal Arch Masons and the triangle is an associated symbol too.

It is very cool! Great find :icon_thumleft:

Thanks for the tip on the potential Masonic link -- and the complement on the find......have found a few LC's but this is the first countermarked one. The number (if I can make it out) might be the lodge number or something. Thanks again BF!

Yeah, I was gonna put it there, but the other counterstruck LC reminded me of it. Besides was a recent find (I don't have a lot of time to detect) and I'm relatively new here -- it wasn't a find from years ago that I pulled out ofthe closet to post! ;D I don't think that the "Today" in "Today's Finds" was meant to be taken literally

If you're looking for info, try posting it in the "what is it" section, especially since it wasn't dug today

You know there's a lot of decaffeinated brands that are just as tasty as the original :laughing7:

You're right, they usually give you a day or two if you're having computer problems or something, not a month

Well just to clarify, NOT to show excitement for a terrific find runs counter to everything that is suppose to be fun and right about a great find! It's just like catching a big fish or making a super shot in golf, you're not subdued in those instances and certainly shouldn't be with a great detecting or treasure find. :icon_thumleft:

Re: Counterstruck '49er Large Cent

He showed class by the way he posted the find (without the typical 15 exclaimation points in the header) -- I'm sorry if you don't understand that (when's the last time u saw Woods high-fiving the crowd after a good shot...u are coming after the wrong guy here). Regarding you calling me a "clown" I thought this forum was moderated? I didn't know what the J-Team was - sorry to burst ur bubble! I didn't bend any rules on this forum, nor do I care too, but I don't need some self-proclaimed "king of the forum" to put me in my place to tell me whose finds I need to get excited about!

\I could tell you were a clown from day one ::) you show up on the scene and tell somebody they showed class by not getting excited about digging a gold coin. All that tells me is that you get jealous when someone gets excited about a good find, which is ridiculous. Then yesterday, you get on my partner's thread who had just dug a 1500's coin and ask "what is the J-team? :dontknow: ".... it's nice to know that you think you can bend the rules too

Well tell the poster -- not me....it wasn't my find. I was excited for him and complemented him on the find and his post. Not sure why you have a problem with that. ::)

Well let's just say I don't like to be castigated by you or your "partners" whether I've posted once here or 10,000 times. The moderator moved the post here, and that's his business, now mind your own! It was a recent find and I was/will be trying to catch up.

There is no "king of the forum" but Today's finds would have to be renamed "Recent What's Its" if everyone pulled stuff out of their drawer and posted it. the whole reason this post is in "What is it" now.

I don't have a problem except to say, if someone is excited and does for instance, put exclamation points or smiley faces, etc. in their title...big deal....let them have that few minutes or hours of excitement. It doesn't diminish them for being jubalant and wanting to express that happiness with his/her friends on TNet and on his or her own thread.

That aside, you have a very interesting counterstamp there and an nice piece of history  :icon_thumright:

Re: Counterstruck '49er Large Cent

Thanks for the comments on my find -- that's why I posted it!! People can address their posts any way they want as far as I'm concerned. Here was a guy that's detected for 30 years and dug his first gold coin. I complemented him on the find and the way he posted the find and I get attacked here for not only posting MY recent find, but the way I responded to his and others posts and called names like "clown." Anyway, as I said, thanks for your positive comments!

My God! Don't you have anything better to do?!?! :dontknow: Excuse me for having detected in England and abroad and voicing my opinion on cleaning an English coin :help: -- sorry, but when it comes to England I know of what I speak -- my wife is British! You may want to cut down on the :coffee2: there brother :tongue3: .... I'm not much interested in engaging you in this nonsense! Please don't reply again.

Who? I know when I found my one and only gold coin I was stunned....that happens too....but you cannot please everyone all the time....if people want to doubt the authenticity of someones find that's fine....all they have to do is look at the history and integrity of that person to know the truth..

Again....I am not in this one :read2:Sent.not to me,I have seen it at least twice on here.I am ready to dig another G.C,I am due :laughing7:

4-H,
