Howdy all. Had an excellent hunt Monday afternoon. Scouted a site from a 1862 map. The large cent rang in as a low tone. So I weighed and measured it and compared to another real one. Counterfeit = 8.9g and 26mm, real = 10g and 26.6mm. The S S MAINE button is unfortunately severely bent. I found 1 example on eBay that said it was a service button, but no other info found. I have found over 20 eagle buttons, but these are the first convex ones and besides the shanks being gone, they are sweet. The large Cupid button is in great shape, the plows spared it. Several other misc. relics and buttons recovered. I hope to get back soon, but it is a 1/2 mile jaunt!! Keep Swinging!!
