need to see both sides. Its hard to tell if its a fake or if its just highly corroded. Most of the time I can immediately spot the fakes, but I'm not sure on yours.

Do you think it could be like this one? It indicates it was found by Don in SJ who is a member here but I couldn't find the thread he originally posted about it.

No answers here...but I will say you certainly had a good day...Congrats and best of luck on the ID.

IMHO: If counterfeit it will add to the story of your great hunt! :occasion14:

Great find. I like those pillar buttons a lot. Only have 2.

Thought I recognized a couple of those 1744 buttons in the link provided by Mackaydon. Sure enough, theyre mine (GWWJR). LOL

Either way one of my favorite finds in a while. Back is toasted but can kinda see where a shank may have been. Also found a few roundballs and some flat buttons. Fields surround a 1781 house

its a button! i found the same one, mine made of pewter

Lots of pillar variety buttons, but mine is the only shield variety in the list. Interesting

Looks like you had a good day Brad congrats on the interesting finds

Thanks Art. These fields are very quiet but managed to find a few very small areas of concentrated finds after much walking. Only spent a few hours in them though

yeah i assumed escudo but no it does look like a 2 real based on size. even tho it may well have a 8 under there for denomination. would love to find one someday.

Looks to be the size of a 2 reales, so I'd say it likely is a period counterfeit. I've seen and owned some brass ones.
