Dug this pretty thing today. Site occupied from late 18th C to late 19th C. I think it is a bell but am open to other suggestions. Might have initials scratched into it at the top or maybe those are random scratches...

I've been speculating based on some research that this site could be the location of the first school in the town. But that would have been late 18thC - very early 19th C and I don't know that this item could be that old (?)

Anyone have an age estimate for this?

Thanks! ;D

It is missing the clapper. But I improvised and next thing I knew I had played out the first verse of Jingle Bells. ;D

That does look close and I won't absolutely discount it but I am positive this house wasn't there then. It burned down at the turn of the 19th to 20th century. I found this smack in the middle of the foundation remains.

There are no other houses/structures within 1/2 mile and I have never found any other artifacts that could date that late - except some spent bullets/shells.

But stranger things have happened :D
