looks to me like an adena cache blade/preform

I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination but my son found something like that years ago and it was described to us as a scraper and yes, paleo period.

Thanks..if it were found in GA. FL. Area I might have considered a Cowhouse Slough. But I think Blade would be correct as SOHIO said.

Those photos you referenced where of unifaced Paleo scrapers. This is a biface with a base thinned for hafting.

Thanks Gator Boy.

Your very welcome and that's a nice piece none the less.

unnotched preform. i've found quite a few of them exactly like yours. here are a few from an old pic. each are a little over an inch and a half... from indiana.

catching up on this thread made me think about a cache of blades I found in the early 90s, and thinking back to old diggers "could it be need opinions" thread I realized that all these cache blades may have been just a pile of brokes they pitched as they were in process. I haven't had them out in a while and looking at them again I have come to this conclusion. The picture is just a sampling of what was in that hole there were over 300 pcs in all and some of them were very fine pcs.

Man!! Nice discovery. Strange that all of them were black flint. It is also strange that none of them seem perfect. Out of 300 pieces, you didn't get one that wasn't broken?

80% of the flint i find is black zaleski and upper mercer flint. Tons of it around.
yeah i found 3 perfect little teardrops at that site...
i thought i had a pic of them on here...but i cant find it....
