Could these old artifacts be colonial era?

Today...before I had dinner with my mother, I came across some old quarry sites. They are not that large.
Possibly just source of rock to build some local houses waaay back when?
As seen, I found the objects they used to hammer these blocks apart. Does anyone have an idea on the age of these invaluable pieces of rusty metal?
Valuable to me though. It doesn't always have to be coins, rings or gold for me. I love finding this stuff!

I've seen that style of chain used in horse harness, but I wouldn't be able to date harness by the style of chain. Otherwise I'm not going to be any help, I know nothing about quarrying rock. The drill holes sure don't seem to be very deep, so have no idea how that worked.
