I vote yes by only what I see in the photo... But it sure looks like stone in your picture to me. Was it cleaned of rust or something? Is it magnetic? Are those hammer marks all over it? What are the dimensions of this interesting find of yours?

I'm with Tamrock on this one. Can't tell from the photo how large it is, but it sure is interesting. Welcome to T Net Digger.

Hi tamrock thanks for your input, its defo metal 100% magnetic I found it on a beach its was encrusted with small shell an stone id no idea wat it was until I cracked open the crust. It also had a coating of what I can only describe as charcoal which I cleaned off with just a bit of water. Its about 1 and a half inch long and appears to be hammered.i only started detectin last week so im very excited about this find....

Maybe an iron knife tip or spear tip is what you found? ? ? Found this said to be Viking knife on ebay. It looks black also. Fine Viking Iron Knife CA 8 10 Century Ad | eBay I must say your finding interesting items with a MD. Keep hunting! I can't wait for you to come back and show us items of Viking silver. You may have found a long lost settlement of who knows how long ago? ? ? Use your eyes also. Look at any thing that's not natural to the geology of your surroundings. If you see something that stands out no mater how small pick it up and take a look. They could be clues.

You know?.... If many of these small items your finding are found along the shores of a beach. Then that would sure open up a much larger variety items that you will find in that type area. Your small items of copper, bronze or brass, what ever they are? on your other post, along with what could also be a very old wrought iron spike or nail in this post, could have been used in the building of a very old boat or ship? Just search found on beach in google images, you'll be amazed of what folks find on a beach. I find early American stone artifacts, fishing lures, cool rocks and some other interesting items along the sandy shores of the water reservoirs in my area. I think your beach sounds like a wonderful beach to search with a MD.
