Hi All,
I found this button on a recent hunt in Virginia. Its in pretty bad shape but I'm hoping there is enough detail left to Id or date it. Its about the size of a dime and very light. The shank seems very crude. There are no markings that I can see. Anything to shed a little light on it would be appreciated.
Thanks,
mike

Based on what you said about it being light & the look of it, I'm going with the classic Blazer Button answer (post-1900). I agree the shank makes it look much older than it is (IMO) :icon_thumright:

PS. maybe the shank was a running repair, but this would be odd for a blazer button I think

We found very little with any age to it on the site so I'm not suprised by the date but one could always hope.
Thanks

It looks like a company logo shield with a globe.

I need some more key words besides shield, logo, and globe. Is that a foot in the upper left corner?

by the shank and the way the button is peeling it looks like it made of metalized plastic. They were a hard plastic with a very thin copper type coating on them. i've dug quite a few of them and it seems they were popular in the mid 1900's. Metalized plastic will give a good signal on a detector.

In the center of what looks like a globe you are actually seeing the inside of the button. The outside crumbled as soon as I picked it up. I don't know what the symbol on the upper left is. Even using a loop I can't make it out. Maybe the whole thing is just a generic design the company used just like you might find on a jacket today. Of course I'm hoping its more specific than that. Maybe a coat of arms or as you said a company logo.
