What if any is the value of corundum? I have many yellow ones in the rough.
Here is a small one I have.

Tera, from what I have seen, not much value. I have rocks the size of melons with them. Blues, reds and greens, but no value. Seems they have to be gemmy for anyone to be interested.IMAG1032.jpgIMAG1029.jpgIMAG1033.jpg

I figured since I cannot work with them might be able to sell them to someone who could. Until I get the right tools I am at a stand still on it and I can always get tons more.

Have you checked for a "star" effect or cat's eye?

Use a drop of dishwashing fluid and a strong overhead light to check for that. The drop helps to make it visible by simulating a dome.

I did not see a star effect but it sorta looks like cats eye if I saw it right. Where I collected them there is cats eye but I haven't seen any star from there as of yet.

give to dave or jim and have one of them cab it, when you go to the roundup.

I had thought about that. Saying our truck will make it. I also thought about a local shop butttt what they start out with and what was left made me sick to see so much of the stone lost. I also thought about trying myself but no. If you could only see the one I worked it..It splintered off bad. I want to get a cab made and set in a bracelet or necklace. Hubby doesn't think it is worth anything and I want to prove him wrong so I can go back to where it was collected.

It should cab but it will be cloudy and may have cracks. you can stabilize it .

Just for me to wear doesn't bother me. The stabilizing I am guessing would have to be a coating put over it?

Stabilizing often means using "things" (like opticon) to fill and at least partially seal cracks.

It may also be large enough to just cut away the cracks, if there are any.
Any cutter would (should?) advise you before he starts cutting it.

Yes, either by soaking in a solution or by vacuum. or combination of both.

Seems I have alot to learn about working with stones. I have thought about taking a class so I can get the basics down atleast. Traveler is the roundup at the mineral show or Graves? I have looked on the site but must be over looking it.
