I came upon this crime scene this morning. Pretty gruesome. Looks like he didn't stand a chance. Most likely a snail gang.

Yes it is a banded slate bar weight. found it back in the spring on my property in a creek bank. the first thing I found when I started hunting artifacts. It got me hooked... and yes the ground here is in desperate need of a drink.

I'm having visuals of a snails gang (with forks and napkins) chasing down a turtle in a corn field. Now that's a race I'd love to watch. Not.

I don't think a kid had anything to do with the turtle's demise. We don't have any kids that live close to us. Don't know how or what killed this little guy but I am sure it wasn't pretty. Whatever it was had to be fairly strong to bust thru the sell like that. Probably snails with clubs....
