Thank you all! My other detecting buddy spied an 1844 LC the following day, after he busted my balls about being lucky the whole night before lol.

What is the best way to preserve old copper coins? I know the patina holds the details but how do i hold the patina?

Wow! 18" deep! What detector do you have? Great job!

Minelab E-Trac, bought it used a little while ago. I was using a stock coil in good ground with very little trash.

An E Trac can find a coin that size at 18 inchs deep? Thats just insane...

I must warn you its not only insane but harder to put down than old yeller. I detect every chance I get, what kind of machines are you all using?

I use a minelab SE I bought used. It's a good machine. Any minelab is good.

Have you ever had any problems with the upper or lower shafts moving side to side?

Is that an SE Pro? I am looking for someone to give me a few hints of what targets might be a certain levels on the number chart. My machine has not arrived yet, shipping today but I want to get an idea of where Gold may hit on it and silver as well. I know every machine is different but any hints would be greatly appreciated!!

these greens not a patina, she needs to be cleaned. It is necessary to clean solution of children's soap.

Nope it's just the SE, I've found out with mine, yours might be different, that I just use the factory settings. I think if you start discriminating it takes away from dept and sensitivity. Sometimes if I'm in a area I know has no trash I use the iron mask setting, if you get anywhere close to brass or copper it lets you know really quick. for mine it took me about 2-3 months to get comfortable with it, I was almost about to send it back. My only complaint about mine is the weight. I have swung mine for 2-3 days a week for about 2 years none stop, I'm looking for something lighter. Thinking about the Garrett at pro. Now I have tennis elbow . Lol
